The old secretariat buildingHYDERABAD: Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday will finalise the design of the new integrated secretariat complex including its facade, interiors, exteriors and other facilities.
The chief minister will hold a high-level meeting and suggest changes and modifications to the building design already submitted to him. It would be attended by senior roads and buildings officials and its minister, architects from Chennai-based Oscar and Ponni, whose building design was selected.
The finalised design would be placed before the state cabinet for final approval following which tenders will be invited and works for construction of the new secretariat complex would commence. "The chief minister is of the view that the new secretariat should reflect the pride, prestige and grandeur of the Telangana culture and life. The CM has examined the designs already submitted to him and will discuss how the exteriors and interiors should be," said an official from the chief minister's office.
Prior to this meeting, the CM will review on the irrigation department on Monday. He has decided to revamp the irrigation department and bring under one umbrella the scattered wings including major, medium, small, irrigation development corporation, project-wise and packages wise units.
About 20 zones will be created in the irrigation department with each one being headed by a chief engineer (CE) as its in-charge. The CEs are likely to be given adequate powers to spend money and execute urgent works. The state government has embarked upon construction of major irrigation projects on Krishna and Godavari rivers. The problem of water for irrigation has been solved in the new state following which agriculture activity has expanded compelling the state to revamp and make more effective the irrigation department.
On the directions of the CM, principal secretary (irrigation) Rajat Kumar and secretary to the CM Smitha Sabharwal have prepared a draft proposal to revamp the irrigation department. It would be placed before the CM in the review meeting on Monday. A detailed discussion will be held and a final decision would be taken on revamping the irrigation department.
