SILCHAR: Three alleged Bangladeshi cattle thieves were lynched at Bhubrighat tea estate near the international border in Karimganj district in the early hours on Sunday.
A senior police official in Karimganj said the names of the deceased could not be confirmed, but added that they were Bangladeshis and were in their 30s.
"The suspected cattle thieves hailed from Jamtala village of Juri sub division under the Sylhet division in Bangladesh. Police recovered their bodies from the spot and sent them to Karimganj civil hospital for autopsy. The bodies will be taken to a morgue on Monday, where they will be kept for 72 hours," said superintendent of police (SP-Karimganj) Kumar Sanjit Krishna.
Sources said a group of seven cattle thieves sneaked into the home of Raju Telanga, a resident of Bubrighat TE, 78 km from here and 1.5 km from the India-Bangladesh border, in the early hours on Saturday. However, they were spotted by Raju's sons who had stepped out to attend to nature's call.
