Youth commits suicide in TN after stabbing girl who refused to marry him

TIRUVANNAMALAI: A 20-year-old electrician committed suicide in Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday after stabbing a girl he loved. D Prasanth of S Nimmiyandhal village took the extreme step after the 17-year-old girl rejected his marriage proposal.
The incident took place on Sunday evening when Prasanth was returning from work. The girl was Prasanth’s neighbour.
On realising that she was alone at home, he visited her and expressed his interest to marry her. The girl refused. Following this, he stabbed her with a sharp weapon and left the place.
He then climbed an electric pole near a farm land, got in contact with a livewire and died.
P Mahalakshmi, inspector of Keelpenathur police station, said, “The girl suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Prasanth’s body was retrieved from the pole and handed over to his parents after postmortem on Monday.”
A case was registered under Section 324 of the (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) the IPC). Further investigations were on.
A doctor, who treated the girl, said she was stable and would be discharged after a week.
