The Supreme Court on Monday admitted the disqualification petition filed by MGP leader Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar against its two former legislators Manohar ‘Babu’ Ajgaonkar and Deepak Pauskar, who had joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and are currently holding positions of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Public Works, respectively.

The plea will be heard by the apex court on August 7.

Dhavalikar has filed this special leave petition against Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly besides Ajgaonkar and Pauskar.

The matter came up for hearing in the apex court on Monday. The court clubbed the matter along with a disqualification petition filed by the Congress party against its ten former MLAs, who resigned from the party and joined the BJP.

The Supreme Court on June 16 had issued formal notice to the Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly and the ten MLAs, seeking response to a plea filed by the Congress party to decide on the disqualification proceedings against the former Congress legislators, who joined BJP in
July 2019.

The court will now hear both the disqualification petitions against all 12 MLAs on August 7, 2020.
