KOLKATA: Violence erupted in West Bengal's Chopra area on Sunday after a 17-year-old girl, who had passed the Madhyamik board examination last week, was allegedly gang-raped and her body was found beside a field with froth coming out from her mouth.
Locals alleged that the girl was missing since Saturday evening and the body was found on Sunday.
They alleged that the student was abducted, gang-raped and then killed by criminals. People also claimed that the rapists forced her to consume poison.

Police said that the locals demanding the arrest of the rapists blocked the road and set ablaze several vehicles, including police jeep and buses. Some motorcycles were also burnt by an irate mob. The police had to lob tear gas shells to control the situation. Many women also participated in the demonstration.
The cops said that several policemen were injured as stones were hurled.
Police had to lathcharge to clear the blocked roads.
