Chimbel resident is Goa’s 22nd COVID fatality

Chimbel: A 67-year-old person from Indira Nagar in Chimbel expired on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the COVID hospital in Margao, making it the 22nd COVID death in the state.

According to sources, the man had visited the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim on July 14 after he developed fever. Health authorities subsequently conducted his COVID test, which indicated he had contracted the virus. He was later shifted to the ESI Hospital in Margao, which has been designated as COVID hospital.

The deceased neither resided in a micro containment zone nor was he from the infected Shirem area of Chimbel. He was a diabetic and also suffered from high blood pressure apart from undergoing dialysis every month.

He is survived by his ailing 60-year-old wife. A COVID test will be conducted on her on Tuesday when the health centre at Killawada reopens.
