Salcete police ensure compliance of lockdown norms by citizens

Margao: During the three-day lockdown in the state, Salcete police ensured that the citizens abided by the rules, while violators were booked.

Police teams ensured that the public followed the lockdown norms, while they also booked those violating the norms under sections 188 and 269 of IPC for negligent act as it was likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life and for disobeying orders promulgated by government.

In the last three days, Salcete police booked six cases under sections 188 and 269 of IPC, informed sources in police.  Movement of two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers was not allowed without prior permission or needlessly, except for essential services and medical emergencies.

Police had set up barricades on several roads in Salcete and policemen were deployed to ensure there was no movement of people without valid reason.

A police inspector informed that barricades were mostly set up at junctions. While sources in Margao police station said that the barricades were put up at spots including near Aquem power house and Navelim junction. 

Cuncolim police said that the barricade points were created near Cuncolim market and at Chinchinim junction while Fatorda police had placed barricades at Gogol junction and Borda.

A police officer said that policemen were instructed to ensure that physical distancing was strictly followed by the public. Patrolling vehicles of police were also deployed to see that norms are followed.

“In the wake of increasing number of cases in the state, the police took strict measures to ensure public order and adherence to health safety norms,” said a police officer. Police personnel were monitoring the roads in the villages of Salcete during the three-day lockdown.

Meanwhile, in other instances earlier, Cuncolim police had arrested Rampravesh Panchkumar under sections 188 and 269 of IPC after he was allegedly spotted moving without any valid reason at Ambelim. 

Police said that Panchkumar, when questioned, was unable to give any satisfactory answer about him roaming on the road and, hence, was arrested and later released on bail.

While in another case, one Manoj Kumar Durg, a resident of Nessai, was arrested by Maina Curtorim police for allegedly drinking alcohol in a public place.

He was booked under section 144 of CrPC and lodged in custody. He was later released, informed the police.

At Fatorda, one Harson Lal was found selling grocery items near traffic circle without ensuring social distancing and, hence, was arrested by Fatorda police. He was booked under section 144 of CrPC and later released.

Colva police had arrested M Naik, aged 33, from Sanguem, for allegedly moving without valid reason at Benaulim beach. He was arrested and released later.
