HYDERABAD: Seven persons, including three male nurses, were arrested for illegally selling anti-viral drugs used for Covid-19 patients at an inflated price at Asifnagar on Saturday. Police also seized ten remdesivir injections from them.
Task Force police nabbed Mohammed Obaid from Asif Nagar, Mohammed Afaq Ali from Hakeempet, Mohammed Majid Ali from Tolichowki, Abdul Aziz from Asif Nagar, B Raju, M Ravi, both from Langer Houz, and N Sunil from LB Nagar.
Aziz, who used to work in a pharmacy at Olive hospital, Langer Houz, observed many people visiting the pharmacy who used to ask for remdesivir injection for the treatment of Covid-19. Given the situation, he hatched a plan to procure and sell the anti-viral drug at a high price to needy customers.
He came in contact with Raju, a staff nurse at Olive Hospital, who offered to supply remdesivir injection for ?10,000 to him despite the injection originally costing only ?5,400.
Raju along with his colleague, Ravi, arranged the supply from his friend Sunil, also a staff nurse at Medisys Hospital, LB Nagar, for ?6,500 and sold it to Aziz. He then sold the remdesivir injections to his known associates for ?20,000 per injection. “The other offenders then sold the same supply to another medical shop in Mehedipatnam for ?28,000,” said a police officer from taskforce.
“While, Raju, Sunil and Ravi, sold the injections supposed to be used for the Covid-19 patients in their hospitals, the accused, Obaid and Aziz, sold the same in their medical shops on high prices without any doctor medical prescription,” he added.
