Six killed as private bus hits car on Lucknow-Agra Expressway near Kanpur

There were more than two dozen passengers in the bus at the time of the accident.
KANPUR: Six people including bus driver were killed and more than twenty injured when a private bus, going to Delhi from Bihar’s Madhubani, went off Agra-Lucknow Expressway after hitting a car in Kannauj district on Sunday morning.
There were more than two dozen passengers in the bus when the accident happened in Saurikh area of Kannauj.
Police, with the help of locals, rushed the injured passengers to the nearest hospital.
As per the reports, the driver fell asleep and lost control of the double-decker bus before hitting a car stationed on the side of the e-way and falling into the fields about 20 feet below.
"As of now, six people, including bus driver, have succumbed to injuries. Four persons were killed at the spot while two died at the hospital. We have pulled out 20 injured passengers from the bus and the car and admitted them to a hospital in Tirwa area of Kannauj and Saifai Medical University in Etawah," Superintendent of police Kannauj Amrendra Singh said.
"During investigations it came to fore that the occupants of the bus were mostly migrant workers and heading to Delhi from their native places in Bihar's Madhubani to resume work, while occupants of car, that was stationed by the side near Saurikh area of Kannauj, were on way to Ludhiana from Lucknow," said a senior official further.
The 302-KM-long Agra-Lucknow Expressway is one of the country's longest expressway.
