Representative imageGREATER NOIDA: A man and his parents have been booked for allegedly torturing his wife over dowry in Surajpur on Saturday, the police said.
The matter came to fore after the victim from Greater Noida complained that she was allegedly raped by her father-in-law. The woman had married the accused a year ago and had been living with him and her in-laws at Purvanchal Heights Society. Her husband works at a private firm. She told the police that her father-in-law had "bad intentions" but she used to avoid him. "During the lockdown period, he forced himself on her. She said she escaped a rape attempt in June and also informed her husband who did not support her," said an officer.
The woman said that after the incident, her father-in-law sent the couple to a relative's house and on returning, the family beat her up and didn't allow her inside the house. "Since then she has been living with her parents in sector Beta II," the officer added.
An FIR has been lodged against the accused under sections 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 354 (molestation), 376 (rape), along with sections under the Dowry Prohibition Act.
"It has come to light that it was the second marriage for the accused. We are investigating the allegations. Arrests will be made after a primary investigation," said Vrinda Shukla, the DCP (women cell).
