Why Sushmita Sen feared losing against Aishwarya Rai at Miss India 1994
Since ages actresses have been compared with each other based on their performances, looks, fame, etc. But the comparison between Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai started way before they entered the Bollywood industry; it was in 1994 when both stunning ladies participated in the Miss India pageant, even though both the ladies made the country proud by winning the Miss Universe and Miss World crown the same year.
Aishwarya was already renowned before her participation at the prestigious national pageant, as she had won the title of international supermodel contest in 1991 and also featured in the American edition of Vogue, later in the year 1993, she gained huge fan following after her appearance in a Pepsi commercial with actors Aamir Khan and Mahima Chaudhry. While Sushmita Sen who was a fresh face stood no chance to win the pageant.
On multiple occasions Sushmita Sen was asked about her glorious win beating Aishwarya, but she always praised Aishwarya for her alluring beauty and said that she was all set to withdraw her participation from the pageant as she feared she had no chance of winning. However, it was only because of her mother, Sushmita decided to participate, but she was so confident of losing that she asked her mother not to attend the coronation ceremony.
Sushmita had confessed on a famous Bollywood show that she started crying thinking she did not even make it as the runner-up, when Aishwarya was announced as the first runner-up. She could not believe her ears when they called out her name as the winner.
On the work front, Sushmita Sen has returned to acting after 10 long years with her digital debut series ‘Aarya’. The show which is received with much love by viewers also stars Chandrachur Singh, Namit Das, Manish Choudhary and Sikander Kher.
