Man charged with murder over fatal stabbing in Pyrmont unit complex

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a building manager in Pyrmont on Thursday morning.

Police arrested Jawid Jawid, 41, in Parramatta, 12 hours after he allegedly stabbed his boss Bashir Zaheer, 44, at the Mirage apartment complex on Bunn Street.

"Police have been told that the man, a building employee, had been involved in an altercation with a man known to him prior to being stabbed," NSW Police said in a statement on Thursday night.

"A crime scene has been established which is continuing to be examined by specialist forensic police. Detectives have established Strike Force Azoic to investigate the man’s death."

A member of the public called police when they found a man unconscious and intoxicated in the street in Parramatta on Thursday night.

As emergency services responded, officers realised that the man was Mr Jawid, whom they had been looking for following Mr Zaheer's death.

Mr Jawid was arrested and taken to Westmead Hospital for observation.

Upon his release from hospital, he was taken to Parramatta Police Station, where detectives charged him with murder.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.

Paramedic Nadia Tomlinson said Mr Zaheer, who died in the hotel's lobby, had suffered a "very confronting trauma".

"These events are quite confronting for crews, when they turn up," Ms Tomlinson said.

"The patient had multiple stab wounds, mostly to the upper torso."
