Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured Governor Satya Pal Malik that observations and suggestions made by him on improving facilities as regards the COVID-19 management will be acted upon by the government in right earnest.
Two days ago a crucial meeting between Malik and Sawant was held over the COVID-19 pandemic. The remarks made by the Chief Minister after the meeting had generated some heat. The Raj Bhavan in a statement issued on Saturday said that Sawant met Malik again on Friday, and both of them pledged to continue working with “full cooperation and synergy”.
The Raj Bhavan’s statement comes on the heels of the Governor maintaining on Thursday that the Sawant government made a ‘judgmental error’ by not imposing lockdown in Vasco when COVID positive cases were fewer.
It is pertinent to note here that the pandemic outbreak at Mangor Hill in Vasco spread to other places of Mormugao taluka and then to different areas of the state.
Rupesh Kumar Thakur, secretary to the Governor, in the statement said the Chief Minister met the Governor again on Friday discussing issues related to the COVID situation in Goa.
“On Friday, the Chief Minister met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and discussed the whole range of issues pertaining to the COVID-19 management in the state,” Thakur said, adding that Malik extended his support to the government in its fight against the pandemic.
“The Governor and the Chief Minister pledged to continue to work in full cooperation and synergy in
order to win the battle against the contagion and in the interest of the state,” the press release said.
The Thursday meeting had kicked up a controversy after the Chief Minister claimed that the Governor had raised concerns over misinformation spread by the media on the COVID crisis.
However, the Governor refuted the claim made by Sawant maintaining that it was an irresponsible statement by the Chief Minister when the media was not discussed at the meeting at all.
