England vs West Indies (ENG vs WI) 2nd Test Day 3 Live Cricket Score Online Updates: Manchester is seeing a downpour on the third day of the 2nd Test. The start of the day has been pushed back, with weather forecasts saying the first half of Day 3 may be washed out. When play is possible, West Indies will resume batting on 32/1 with Kraig Brathwaite in the middle with night watchman Alzarri Joseph.
Opener John Campbell was trapped lbw for 12 in a tricky session before stumps on Day 2. England dominated in the first innings with a grafting century from Dom Sibley and an increasingly belligerent one by Ben Stokes. Opener Sibley completed his second Test century, eventually falling for 120, while Stokes cut loose after it before going for 176 as England declared on 469-9. England are trying to level the series after losing the opener at Southampton last week.
If you are on the lookout for some positive news from Manchester, the wait does not look to be getting any shorter. It is STILL RAINING. We have now lost more than one hour on the day and we are set to lose much more. The covers are in place on the pitch square, not to mention the pounding the outfield has been taking for the past few hours. Forecasts say the rain is set to stop in another couple of hours. That would leave getting the ground ready for action (another hour!) and hoping the lights are good enough for some play at the back end of the day.
So now that we are done with chances of having a full day on Day 3, how bad is the picture exactly? The weather forecast says rain is expected for the next three hours or so. Which means the morning session and the afternoon session might be completely washed out. Some play can be expected after Tea. However, the low light at Old Trafford has been an issue before. All at the mercy of the rain gods right now. However, in some positive news, no rain is expected tomorrow and day after, the last two days of the Test.
Curran on that missed Review late on Day 2:
30 minutes of Day 3 have been lost now. And we are set to lose much more. Sam Curran is speaking on television about the Review England did not take in the dying minutes of Day 2. Alzarri was struck on the pads but England did not take a Review and West Indies went in with 9 wickets in hand. Curran says he did not insist on a Review because he thought there had been some bat before that went on to the pads.
Meanwhile, how good is Ben Stokes as a Test batsman at the moment? We are into another summer of Stokes, as this shot would indicate.
England would have been looking to take the initiative in the 2nd Test on Day 3. Weather forecasts say rain is expected till well into the afternoon session. What a dampener!
England would have been looking to get West Indies on the mat and make them follow-on but the weather Gods seem to have other ideas. The rain is not showing any sign of relenting at the moment. And the forecast for the rest of the day does not look very good either. Chances that a whole session, or even more, may be completely washed out today.
The time for the start of Day 3 has been officially pushed back. This was why Sibley's slow knock came under so much criticism yesterday. Rain was always forecast for today, so it was imperative that England push on on Day 2. Will they regret their slow pace in the first half of Day 2? The covers are firmly in place at Old Trafford at the moment. We shall bring you positive news when there is any, but the signs look bleak now.
Depressing news from the centre for England fans. The rain forecast in Manchester for the day has been proved right. It is raining at the moment. Have to wait for this downpour to stop before any calculations can be made on when play can start today.
