Tirupur petrol bunk cashier assaulted, robbed of Rs 9,000

COIMBATORE: An unidentified man assaulted a petrol bunk cashier near Tirupur with a knife and robbed him of Rs 9,000. The incident happened at a petrol bunk in Palladam in the early hours of Friday.
The man took away a central processing unit (CPU), thinking that it was a digital video recorder (DVR) of CCTV cameras. The Tirupur district police have formed four special teams to nab the accused.
The injured cashier has been identified as C Mani, 48, of Chinniyagoundenpalayam near Palladam.
Mani was admitted to a private hospital in Palladam.
Police said two men filled petrol in their motorcycle at the petrol bunk at 2.1am on Friday. They left the bunk at 2.6am and returned to the bunk around 2.11am.
The pillion rider, whose face was covered with a mask, knocked on the door of the office, and Mani opened the door.
Mani was threatened at knifepoint and was attacked on his head. He was later locked in the room, while the riders zoomed away with Rs 9,000 and a CPU.
The Palladam police registered a case under 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Indian Penal Code. Murugavel, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Palladam sub-division, formed four special teams.
A CCTV footage of the incident was widely shared on social media platforms on Saturday.
