Centre asks WB, Assam, Bihar, Odisha to strengthen efforts to combat Covid-19
With these states imposing lockdown anew, the health ministry emphasised that the restrictions should be utilised to focus on containment, surveillance and testing in containment and buffer zones as the key strategy for early detection of cases and fatality management. In a letter to Principal Secretaries (Health) and Secretary (Health) of these states, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health Lav Agarwal asked them to ensure that at least 80 per cent of the new cases have their close contacts traced and are in quarantine within 72 hours of case confirmation.

Lockdown imposed in Andhra's Narasaraopet due to rise in cases
A complete lockdown has been imposed in Narasaraopet town of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh from Friday onwards, according to the Narasaraopet MLA Gopireddy Srinivas Reddy. The total lockdown might continue for seven to 10 days, he added. The MLA also said that a 200-bed hospital will be set up in the town very soon.

The number of containment zones and buffer zones around the Taj Mahal and the interior city continues to remain high, at 85. The Rajasthan and MP borders are virtually sealed to restrict entry of visitors from Gwalior and Bharatpur side. Border of Haridwar district with UP sealed till July 20
"Border of Haridwar district with adjoining state of Uttar Pradesh has been sealed from today till 20th July in view of COVID-19 cases. 4 NDRF personnel among 10 new Covid-19 cases in Mizoram; count rises to 282
Five fresh cases were reported from Aizawl, three from Siaha and two from Champhai district, he said. The new patients, including the four NDRF personnel who were posted at Lungverh near Aizawl, had returned from other states. The fresh infections have taken the number of active cases in the state to 122 while 160 people have recovered so far.
