Tyres burnt in front of three Coimbatore temples

COIMBATORE: Unidentified people set used tyres on fire in front of three temples in Coimbatore in the early hours of Saturday, police said.
An unidentified man set a tyre ablaze in front of the Mahaliamman temple on the N H Road near Five Corner. The man damaged a bulb, a board and other properties of the temple. A CCTV footage showed the man taking a used tyre from a roadside puncture shop and setting it ablaze.
Likewise, an unidentified person set a tyre ablaze in front of the Selva Vinayaga temple at Nallampalayam.
A similar incident happened at the Lord Vinayaga temple near Coimbatore railway station.
Following the incidents, Hindu Munnani and BJP cadres gathered near the temples and demanded action against the culprits.
Police personnel have been deployed at the temples.
These incidents happened a day after a member of a Hindu outfit desecrated a Periyar statue in the city.
