BOSTON --- Three Red Sox road games are now in doubt after a Saturday ruling by the Canadian government.

The Blue Jays have been denied federal approval to play their 2020 home games at Rogers Centre. The franchise was cleared by city and provincial officials to stage its Summer Camp at its home ballpark, but it now could be forced to move the earliest of its 30 home games during the regular season.

Boston is scheduled to visit Toronto once from Aug. 25-27. The Red Sox host their other seven games against the Blue Jays and will welcome Toronto to Fenway Park for a pair of exhibition games Tuesday and Wednesday. The border between the United States and Canada is closed to all nonessential travel through at least Aug. 21 – that date falls before Boston visits.

Canada has flattened the coronavirus pandemic curve while cases in America continue to surge. Blue Jays players are staying at the hotel attached to their home field and are not allowed to leave the premises per terms of the Quarantine Act. Violators face up to six months of jail time and a fine exceeding $550,000.
