The BJP on 18 July asked if the Congress government in Rajasthan resorted to "unconstitutional" methods to tap phones of politicians and demanded a CBI probe into what it called a "saga of illegalities and concocted lies". This comes after the Congress released some audio tapes in which some rebel party MLAs were heard talking to people considered close to the BJP. The Congress claimed a voice in one of the tapes was that of Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra hit back at the Congress, saying the state government has violated the law. The Congress, on the other hand, now claims that by raising the demand for a CBI probe, the BJP has admitted to its role in horse trading of MLAs.
