MADURAI: Dindigul district forest officials on Saturday arrested two men for killing a peahen for its meat.
The accused have been identified as Gnanasekaran, 50, and Paulraj, 34, from Viralipatti village near Sanarpatti.
The two men killed the peahen that was seated on a tree branch on the Natham-Dindigul Main Road in Viralipatti.
Passersby, who witnessed the duo’s action, alerted forest department officials.
A team led by Sirumalai Range Forest officer Manoj traced the two accused men and arrested them.
An official said Gnanasekaran and Paulraj were planning to cook while they were nabbed.
The peahen’s meat and two country made guns were seized from them.
A case was registered.
