KURUKSHETRA: The Haryana agriculture minister JP Dalal inaugurated five-day Fruit expo at Centre for Subtropical Fruit, Ladwa, Kurukshetra on Saturday. The fruit growers exhibited the fruits at the event and the entire event was live-streamed through various media platforms due to Covid-19.
Minister Dalal said the state is working in coordination with Israel and by adopting this latest technology, fruit-vegetable based centers of excellence have been established in different districts in Haryana and 3-4 centers will be set up in the coming time.
Addressing the farmers digitally, Dalal said from past many years, the horticulture department has been organizing fruit fair at Pinjore in Panchkula, but this time it is being organized in Ladwa.
He said on five different days, different fruits will be exhibited each day including mango, litchi, guava, pomegranate, and pears.
Dalal said at this time, there has been a historical increase in crops like wheat, mustard and maize, as earlier these crops used to grow by 2 to 3%, while this growth has reached 6%. “With a focus on crop diversification, the farmers are being asked to adopt horticulture, dairy, milk and fish production to boost income. In this state, loans are being provided for processing units to provide employment to educated youth”, added Dalal.
Dalal also talked about the locust problem in Haryana, he said, “After July 22, there is going to be more danger for the locust swarms, for which the government has made complete preparations. If necessary, helicopters and drones will be used to eliminate locusts and tractor spray machines will be used by adopting the country's best technology.”
“In Palwal, out of 36 samples of medicines used to kill locust in Palwal, 2-3 samples were not well, on which the government immediately took cognizance and filed an FIR, blacklisted the company and returned the products and also the officials have been charge-sheeted”, added Dala.
Asked about tractor-rally called by farmers against government ordinances, Dalal said the farmers’ leaders are sitting free and they have no issue to speak upon.
