CHENNAI: The
doubling time of
Covid-19 cases in the city has increased to around 47 days, said Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner
G Prakash on Saturday.
This was at a time when the national average of doubling time was 21 days, Prakash said.
"ICMR and WHO say that anything above 14 days is a good trend. This means we are doing really well," he said.
The doubling time in Royapuram zone, which was the city's biggest Covid-19 hotspot, is 90 days.
The commissioner pointed out that around 12,000 samples were tested in Chennai on Friday and 13,000 samples would be tested on Saturday.
"We gradually ramped up testing based on the chief minister's instructions," he said.
