HYDERABAD: Schools for the academic year 2020-21 are yet to begin in Telangana due to the Covid-19 situation and lockdown restrictions but textbooks will be distributed to students of government schools and zilla parishad schools.
The distribution began in Adilabad district with the newly appointed director of school education A Devasena distributing the free textbooks to students of a government school at the camp-office of the collector.
In Mahbubnagar, the distribution of textbooks to students will take place between July 22 and 25. Sports, excise and tourism minister V Srinivas Goud said headmasters should make an arrangement on one of the days to handover the textbooks to the students.
On Saturday, Srinivas Goud flagged off a TSRTC cargo bus at the R&B guest house at Mahbubnagar which will go to various mandals in the districts and deliver the textbooks.
A total of 4,65,070 textbooks are needed for students enrolled in government schools and zilla parishad schools. In the first phase, 3,87,850 books have been received in the district for distribution. Textbooks for residential schools have already been supplied.
For the entire state, the Telangana government textbook press has supplied 1.42 crore textbooks to all district points so far, out of the 1.50 crore which are needed. The total enrolment expected is more than 26 lakh students.
For the academic year, 1.28 crore books for sell have been entrusted to private printers and publishers. The textbooks will be available in the market for private school students from June 30 for more than 32.5 lakh students.
