25 cases in just one building on D Road, 9 in a society on A Road.
The coronavirus is making its way back to the city’s posh localities and buildings. A total of 34 people have recently tested positive in just two housing societies in Marine Drive.
A building on D road has 25 cases, and another building on A Road reported nine cases. The buildings have been sealed. The A ward, where these areas fall, is seeing a weekly growth rate of 1.5 per cent which is more than the overall Mumbai average of 1.34 per cent. Over 2,170 cases and 70 deaths have been reported from A ward so far, but the rise of cases in posh societies is a new trend. In March and early April, most of the cases were being reported from high-rises as the virus came in from abroad. Since then, it had ravagedslums and chawls , where social distancing was next to impossible. Now, it is back in the posh societies as the city finds itself in ‘unlock’ mode.
Jadhav said letters have gone to housing societies andMarine Drive Residents’ Groups . “As per the new circular, society chairman and secretary should take responsibility for containment zones to ensure people don’t venture out. We have to see that this infection doesn’t spread in other societies. As per my information, cooks, helps and guards are made to live together in one room,” said Jadhav.
A resident who tested Covid positive from a building on A road said nine people have tested positive in his society. Speaking to Mirror from the hospital, he said, “I went to my office and back twice a week and took precautions. I believe this isn’t being handled well by both residents and theBMC .”
He added that everyone in the building has been tested by now. “There were four helps staying in a garage and another help was put up in another garage. They tested positive and so we decided that we should get ourselves tested. We called thelab technician at home. I started getting fever and was admitted. My wife and son are fine. The watchmen have also tested positive.”
Another resident of the building said, “A lot of the residents tested and the results are awaited. We can’t get deliveries as the watchmen have tested positive. It’s a mess. We have had to lock the front gate for security as we don’t have to guard the gate.We absolutely have to be on our guard.”
