More than half of Assam’s Covid patients have recovered

GUWAHATI: An 80-year-old woman won her battle against Covid-19 at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and walked out a healthy person on Friday. So far, more than half of state's total Covid-affected people have recovered. At present, Assam has the fourth highest recovery rate in the country after Delhi, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
In the last 24 hours, three more patients have succumbed to the virus following which the death toll has climbed to 51. However, the state's mortality rate of 0.24% continues to be the lowest rate in the country.
The cumulative count of positive cases reached 20,646 mark, while the cumulative count of recovered cases went up to 14,105, which is 67.5% of the total positive cases registered in the state so far. The total number of active cases now is 6,487.
"An 80-year-old Covid-19 fighter discharged from GMCH after testing negative. She was critically ill during hospitalization. Inspiring moment for all of us when she went out smiling from GMCH," health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
