LUCKNOW: The Lucknow University is planning to replace its entrance test for admissions to undergraduate courses with merit system on the basis of marks obtained in class 12 this year.

The proposal was moved in view of the pandemic as it would not be possible for LUto hold entrance test.

If the proposal is adopted by the admission committee, the merit-based system will be back in LU after a gap of four years.

At least 40,000 students have applied for UG courses and the late date for applications is July 31. LU followed merit system for 16 years till 2015 after which entrance test was revived.

LU vice-chancellor Prof Alok Kumar Rai said, “Students from across the country and the state apply for admission to the university. In times of coronavirus outbreak, we have to take safety of students into consideration.” If the university admits students at UG level through merit system, the associated colleges which have opted for admissions under the university’s newly-introduced centralized admission system will get students through merit system.

The move will relieve thousands of students from the stress of traveling or moving within the city to appear for the entrance examination.

All students will only have to upload the required documents from the comfort of their homes.
