JORHAT: Four rhinos have drowned to death in the flood waters in Kaziranga National Park. Park authorities on Thursday said carcasses of two rhinos were found in the park’s central forest range and one each in the western and Burapahar forest range.
With these deaths, the total number of rhinos killed in Kaziranga has gone up to five during this monsoon. Earlier, another male rhino was found dead in the park’s western forest range on June 26.
The national park has lost 76 animals, including 61 hog deer, in the ongoing wave of floods since June 25.
A park official said, “90 per cent of the total park area is still reeling under water. Of the total 223 anti-poaching camps, 99 have been submerged so far. Six camps have been vacated due to the floods.”
