Man and neighbour’s wife attempt suicide in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: A 26-year-old married woman and a man, who is her neighbour, attempted suicide by setting themselves on fire at Vilankurichi in Coimbatore on Friday.
They suffered 90% of burn injuries and were struggling for life in Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
The duo have been identified as Sivasankari, wife of Jagadeesh of Vilankurichi and her neighbour Rajesh, 22, son of Ramakrishnan.
Both of them lived in two separate houses in a building.
They set themselves on fire after dousing themselves with petrol. On hearing their cries, neighbours rushed to the spot and took them to the CMCH in an ambulance.
While being taken to CMCH, Sivasankari told police that she had taken the extreme step on her own and nobody had instigated her.
Rajesh told police that he and Sivasankari were friends. But their family members and neighbours suspected their character. So, they took the extreme step.
Saravanampatti police inspector (law & order) V Selvaraj said the cause of the suicide attempt was yet to be known.
The police registered a case under Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code and further investigations were on.
