ERODE/SALEM: Covid-19
mortality rate in
Tamil Nadu is lesser than that in
Maharashtra because the state tested more people and treated patients well, said chief minister
Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday.
As many as 1.56 lakh people have contracted
Covid-19 in the state, and 67% of them have recovered.
Covid-19 claimed 2,250 lives in Tamil Nadu whereas more than 11,000 people died in Maharashtra.
“The death rate is low because of our efficient
healthcare,” the chief minister said.
The CM, who chaired a meeting with MSME representatives in Erode said the state was suffering from a financial burden. "However, my government was carefully considering all the demands related to industries," he said, adding that the government was focusing on agriculture and textile sectors.
He said Erode district has 8,329 MSMEs. Loans to the tune of Rs 350 crore has been sanctioned for them. This loan amount will help MEMEs revive their businesses affected by the pandemic.
The CM chaired a meeting with farmers during his visit to Erode. Palaniswami said he had ordered to construct seven check dams across the Bhavani river between Bhavanisagar dam and Bhavani town at a cost of Rs 81crore.
The CM inaugurated projects worth Rs 151.57 crore.
He inaugurated a new building for Edappadi municipality in Salem district on Friday evening. He launched new schemes and projects worth Rs 28 crore at the event.
