NEW DELHI: The actual caseload of Covid-19 patients in the country is 3.31 lakh, or around a third (34.18%) of total 9.68 lakh cases detected so far, and it has been steadily declining, the health ministry has said, reports Sushmi Dey. It underlined that the actual caseload of the disease has remained “limited and manageable” in the country due to proactive testing, tracking and containment measures.
Even with regard to the current Covid situation, two states — Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu — constitute 48.15% of the country’s total active caseload. Ten states constitute 84.62% of the total active caseload. This trend continues even as data show fresh cases increasing with a record single-day increase of 32,695 infections reported on Wednesday.
The ministry said the current caseload remains manageable because of “proactive measures of containment including house-to-house survey, perimeter control activities, timely contact tracing and surveillance of containment zones, aggressive testing and timely diagnosis of cases”.
Highlighting the rising recovery rate that helped bring down mortality as well as active caseload, the government said from mid-June 2020 after crossing the 50% mark in recovery rate, there is a steady increase in the number of recovered patients and decline in the number of active cases.
Experts say the infection is spreading in specific states adding up to a sharp increase in national average.
