Instructions to recruit members in the Armed Forces Tribunal in one month

The Supreme Court lashed out at the Central Government for not timely recruiting new judicial members to the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT). The apex court has directed the government to recruit members within a month.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde said that we want to extend the tenure of officers who retire on July 22-23 to three months. Meanwhile, the Center can make regular appointments. Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing for the Center, sought three weeks to consider the names for the appointment.

The Chief Justice told the Attorney General in a sarcastic manner that we asked you for appointments and you did nothing. Should we give you instructions for this every time? Venugopal said that this could not be possible due to some difficulties.
