Kerala: Community spread of coronavirus in two coastal villages

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first community spread of coronavirus infection in the state has been declared in the two coastal hamlets of Poonthura and Pulluvila in the state capital.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said the situation in the coastal regions of the state capital is very volatile and steps are on to prevent the spread of the infection to other areas. The coastal region is going to face a total shutdown as part of containment measures.
As many as 791 Covid-19 cases were reported on Friday, taking the total number of cases to 11,066. The number of active cases is 6,029. The number of contact cases is increasing in the state with 556 cases reported across the state.
Of the 556 cases, the sources of 42 people are not yet known. The contact cases include 15 healthcare workers, one ITBP personnel, seven KSC staff in Thrissur, one BSF personnel and one fire brigade personnel.
Thiruvananthapuram continues to report more contact cases with 240 more people were infected through contacts. Ernakulam reported 84 such cases, Pathanamthitta 54, Alappuzha 46, Kollam 29, Kasargod 23, Kozhikode 14, Kottayam 9, Malappuram 8, Wayanad 8, Thrissur 7, Idukki 6 and one each from Palakkad and Kannur.
Among the 791 new cases, 246 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 115 from Ernakulam, 87 from Pathanamthitta, 57 from Alappuzha, 47 from Kollam, 39 from Kottayam, 32 each from Thrissur (one expired), Kozhikode and Kasaragod, 31 from Palakkad, 28 from Wayanad, 25 from Malappuram, 11 from Idukki and 9 are from Kannur.
One death was reported during the day from Ollur in Thrissur. Meanwhile 133 people under treatment were declared negative.
