Samajwadi Party leader and former minister Ghura Ram died of Corona virus infection in the early hours of Thursday.

Santhora Kumar, the son of Ghura Ram, said that his father died at four in the morning at the Kigjarj Medical University in Lucknow. He was 63.

He said that Ghura Ram was admitted to the hospital late last night on 14 July after coughing and difficulty in breathing. He said that a report of his medical examination came on Wednesday, in which he was confirmed to be suffering from COVID-19.

He said that from yesterday, problems of cough and blood pressure increased and his condition had worsened. Ghura Ram, a trusted aide of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, was an MLA from Rasra Safer seat in the district in the years 1993, 2002 and 2007 and was the Minister of State for Health in the Mayawati government. Recently he joined the SP. SP national president Akhilesh Yadav made Ghura Ram a member of the national executive of the party.
