China becomes first economy to grow since virus pandemic
- China became the first major economy to grow since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, recording an unexpectedly strong 3.2% expansion in the latest quarter after anti-virus lockdowns were lifted and factories and stores reopened.
- Growth reported Thursday for the three months ending in June was a dramatic improvement over the previous quarter's 6.8% contraction _ China's worst performance since at least the mid-1960s. But it still was the weakest positive figure since China started reporting quarterly growth in the early 1990s.

- Boeing announced in a press release that it has won an almost one billion dollar contract to support the operations of the International Space Station (ISS) through to 2024.
- "Boeing, NASA's (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) lead industry partner for the ISS since 1993, will continue supporting the celebrated orbiting laboratory through September of 2024 under a $916 million contract extension awarded today," the release said.
Decision on TikTok within weeks, not months: White House
- The White House indicated on Wednesday that a decision on Chinese mobile applications, including TikTok, could be taken within weeks and not months.
- "I do not think there is any self-imposed deadline for action, but I think we are looking at weeks, not months," White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows told reporters aboard Air Force One, flying with President Donald Trump form Atlanta.

Mongolian teenager dies of bubonic plague
- The government imposed a quarantine on a portion of Gobi-Altai province, where the cases occurred. The health ministry said 15 people who had contact with the boy who died were quarantined and are receiving antibiotics.

174 Indian nationals file lawsuit against presidential proclamation on H1B
- A group of 174 Indian nationals, including seven minors, has filed a lawsuit against the recent presidential proclamation on H-1B that would prevent them from entering the United States or a visa would not be issued to them.
- Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson at the US District Court in the District of Columbia issued summonses on Wednesday to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad F Wolf, along with Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia.
Reliance's $15 bln stake sale deal with Aramco delayed
- Reliance Industries' plans to sell 20% stake in its oil-to-chemical business to Saudi Aramco is delayed, chairman of the Indian conglomerate said on Wednesday.
- Reliance, operator of the world's biggest refining complex, last year announced a $15 billion deal with the world's top oil exporter Aramco as part of the Indian company's efforts to cut its debts.
- "Due to unforeseen circumstances in the energy market and the Covid-19 situation, the deal (with Saudi Aramco) has not progressed as per the original timeline," Mukesh Ambani told shareholders on Wednesday.
- The Aramco deal was initially expected to be completed by March 2020.

Savings disincentivised: Real interest rates slide into negative territory
- A sharp fall in deposit rates due to aggressive rate cuts by banks in response to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) reduction in the benchmark rates coupled with a rise in consumer prices have pulled real interest rates into negative territory, disincentivising savings.
- The RBI has reduced its benchmark repo rate by 115 basis points between March and May to support the economy in light of the Covid-19 induced slowdown. As a result, banks have had to reduce their lending and deposit rates to adjust to the new interest rate scenario. One basis point is 0.01 percentage point.
