With 294 Covid-19 +ves, Vidarbha nears 8k mark

Nagpur/Amravati/Chandrapur/Wardha/Yavatmal: Seven deaths were reported from five districts on Wednesday taking the Covid-19 toll to 225 in Vidarbha. With 294 fresh cases, the total infection cases inched closer to the 8,000-mark at 7,930. Under lockdown till July 21, Buldhana saw a record single-day spike of 69 positive cases which took its tally to 625. Among Gadchiroli’s 17 new cases, 15 are CRPF jawans and two civilians.
Wardha (1), Bhandara (6), Gondia (3) and Chandrapur (9) were the only districts posting single-digit Covid cases on Wednesday.
A 30-year-old daily wager hanged himself in Navin Nagar in Nagpur on Tuesday. His body was brought to IGGMCH where the sample tested positive. A 63-year-old Yavatmal resident, who was admitted to GMCH on July 14 in serious condition and tested positive on Wednesday also passed away.
In Yavatmal, Covid deaths included a 41-year-old man from Tirupati Nagar and a 61-year-old man from Digras.
One each — 76-year-old man from Mundgaon village in Akot tehsil, 40-year-old man from Karwand village in Chikhli tehsil and a 43-year-old man from Anjangaon Surji — died in Akola, Buldhana, Amravati, respectively.
GADCHIROLI: Fifteen CRPF jawans and two civilians from institutional quarantine facility at Gadchiroli tested positive on July 15. This took the total number of patients in the district to 254. These include 42 jawans and eight civilians from other districts/states. As on date, 163 Covid-19 patients are under treatment in Gadchiroli.
AKOLA: The lone death in Akola on Wednesday took the district’s Covid-19 toll to 98. Akola received 315 test reports on Wednesday, out of which 33 were positive. Total 37 patients were discharged on July 15. Now, Akola has 1,943 total cases, and 1,630 of them have been discharged. Akola’s recovery rate is about 84%. Akola will observe complete lockdown from July 17 to 21.
BULDHANA: For the second day in a row, Buldhana reported record single-day spike on July 15. A 40-year-old man’s death during treatment took Covid-19 toll to 18. Thanks to rapid antigen tests, 69 suspects — including two above 80 years of age — tested positive from various parts of the district. Out of the 69 positive reports received on July 15, 68 were detected using rapid antigen test while one is from conventional RT- PCR test in lab. Total 380 tests were conducted on Wednesday, with 297 of them being rapid antigen tests. Buldhana now has 625 total Covid-19 cases, including 285 patients recovered, 18 dead and 319 under treatment.
WASHIM: With 19 new cases coming from rural areas, the number of total Covid-19 cases in district surged to 293 on July 15. With 115 of them recovered and seven deaths, total 171 patients are under treatment.
GONDIA: Bangladesh, Srinagar (J&K) and Hyderabad returnees tested positive in the district on July 15. Among the positives, one is a resident Gondia and two others hail from Goregaon tehsil. Twelve patients were discharged after recovery on Wednesday. Reports of 144 samples are awaited. Gondia has 41 patients under treatment at present.
BHANDARA: Three suspects from Bhandara city and three returnees from Ahmedabad and Pune tested positive on July 15 taking the total Covid-19 cases in the district to 185. Three patients recovered today taking the number of recovered patients to 90. With two deaths reported till date, Bhandara has 93 patients under treatment now.
YAVATMAL: Two Covid patients under treatment in the GMC isolation ward died on Wednesday, taking the district’s toll to 17. Twelve new cases took the Covid tally to 193. Of the 12, eight were tested in the GMC lab while the remaining were detected through rapid antigen tests. As on date, 150 persons are admitted in the isolation ward of GMCH. Eight patients were discharged on Wednesday.
AMRAVATI: With a spike of 59 cases (10 of them from rural belt) and death of a 43-year-old man from Anjangaon Surji, the district's Covid count stood at 1,059 and the toll at 36, respectively. With the 10 rural cases, the rural count also reached 150. The number of recovered cases reached 667 on Wednesday, including 19 discharged from Nagpur, and as many from here. A 33-year-old woman doctor from Parvati Nagar and an 18-month-old from Kailashnagar were among those found positive on Wednesday. Nine cases were from Kanwarnagar, while Kailashnagar posted five. Four each came from Shrinathwadi and Daroga Plots while Siddheshwar Housing Colony gave two. Rest of the cases came from different new and old Covid localities of the city and the district. With 36 deaths and 667 recoveries, the number of active cases stood at 356 today, including 10 under treatment in Nagpur.
CHANDRAPUR: Nine more positive patients were found in the district taking the total to 213 during last 24 hours. Out of total patients, 113 have been cured, while the figure of positive patients stands at 100. Officials claimed that four positive patients were detected in the results gathered late on Tuesday night. They include a 41-year-old woman from Urjanagar and a 43-year-old woman from Kurjha village, 27-year-old from Borgaon and a 39-year-old man from Lakhapur in Bramhapuri tehsil. Those found positive on Wednesday include an SRPF jawan, Nagina Bagh resident and Babupeth resident from city. A 19-year-old girl from Chek Darur in Gondpipri and a 54-year-old person from Nakoda have also been found positive.
Meanwhile, Chandrapur city, Urjanagar and Durgapur villages at the outskirts are going into strict lockdown from Friday.
