On Day 1 of England vs West Indies 2nd Test, the second session has started for the visitors on a brighter note as Roston Chase got rid of Zak Crawley for a golden at the Old Trafford in Manchester today. After that, captain Joe Root survived a nervy phase with few flashy strokes and stitched a 52 run partnership with Sibley. However, England skippers' innings was cut short by Alzarri Joseph as Root went after a wide delivery, outswinger and nicked it to his counterpart immediately after the drinks break. Sibley and Stokes have been patient, with the former getting a life minutes before the tea break. At tea, England was 112-3 as it has been getting gloomy in Manchester.

Earlier, after a rain delay, Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bowl first. England made 4 changes in its playing 11 with Jofra Archer as a forced one given he broke the coronavirus protocol. He left the team's bio-secure environment and went to his home.

Spinner Roston Chase made the breakthrough for the West Indies with the last ball before lunch just as England looked like negotiating the first hour of day one of the second test in gloomy Manchester on Thursday.

The tourists' pacemen struggled to apply any pressure on England's openers as play began 90 minutes late and under lights at Old Trafford. Chase was handed the final over before the break by captain Jason Holder and trapped Rory Burns lbw for 15 with the second delivery.

Burns chose to review, but replays showed the ball was hitting the top of middle stump.

England went into lunch on 29-1 after 13.2 overs, a disappointing start to a tough morning for the hosts at least off the field.
