MUMBAI: Two persons died and 15 sustained injuries after residential ground-plus-two storey chawl structure collapsed in Malwani slum at Malad West on Thursday. The deceased are 18-year-old Faizal Wahid and 23-year-old Anjum Shaikh.
A part of the three-storey chawl (old tenements), located at Malvani gate number 5 in the western suburbs, collapsed around 2.30 pm, a fire brigade official said.
Four fire engines, a rescue van and ambulances were rushed to the spot and 15 people were rescued from the debris, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Officials stated that other injured were taken hospitals and sustained minor injuries in the incident. They have been discharged after the treatment.
