CHENNAI: The
Tamil Nadu government on Thursday sanctioned Rs 1,000 each to the members of various welfare boards affected by the intense
lockdown in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts between June 19 and 30.
An order to this effect was issued by the revenue and disaster management department.
A sum of Rs 6.56 lakh was sanctioned to provide aid to each of the 656 members of Tribal
Welfare Board, Rs 5.01 lakh to 501 folk artists, Rs 16.66 lakh to 1,666 members of the Tamil Nadu Third Gender Welfare Board, Rs 27.97 lakh to 2,797 members of the Scavenger Welfare Board, and Rs 3.66 lakh to 366 members of Tamil Nadu Traders Welfare Board. The government sanctioned Rs 98.82 lakh towards the third spell of Covid relief to the 9,882 registered members of the Cine Welfare Boards in these four districts.
The government also sanctioned Rs 4.98 crore towards the institutional quarantine of passengers, accommodating asymptomatic positive patients in Covid care centres and creation of new centres. The fund was allocated to the district collectorates of Trichy, Thanjavur, Cuddalore and Sivaganga following requests from the collectors, an order said.
