Thane: Ulhasnagar Covid-19 tally crosses 5,000; many asymptomatic patients preferring home isolation

ULHASNAGAR: The Covid-19 tally in the fifth-worst affected Ulhasnagar city in the Thane district of Maharashtra (MMR region) on Thursday crosses 5,000.
The city on Thursday reported new 202 patients in the last 24 hours taking the total patients' count in the region to 5,046, including 74 deaths so far.
If the health department data of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation is to be believed, so far 2,973 patients have got discharged from different hospitals and Covid care centers while the remaining 1,999 patients are still taking treatments.
In Ulhasnagar, it has been found that most of asymptomatic patients in absence of proper treatment and other facilities at Covid care centres are seen preferring home isolation as out of total 1,114 asymptomatic patients with mild symptoms, 635 patients are in home isolation while only 479 patients are kept at Covid care centres.
A Covid patient, who is in home isolation for the last four days and did not wish to be named, told TOI, "After my father tested positive, I also tested positive, but my father who is in Covid care centre finding no proper facilities recommended me to remain in home isolation".
Meanwhile, looking at the rising Covid cases, Dr Raja Dayanidhi, commissioner of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, has decided to implement Dharavi pattern in city and said very soon a door-to-door survey will start in city by taking help of all corporators and their volunteers teams to control Covid cases by tracing maximum Covid suspects in city.
