Alumnus of Bapatla Agriculture College held diamond jubilee celebrations

GUNTUR: Civil servants and top bureaucrats, who studied in Bapatla agriculture college, joined together to celebrate the diamond jubilee celebrations in different locations on Thursday. Separate programmes were held in Mangalagiri and Hyderabad to mark the event. Although, the former students of the college wanted to make it a big-ticket event, they have changed plans to organize the programmes in different locations keeping in view of the outbreak of covid-19.
Bapatla agriculture college produced several stalwarts not only in agriculture sector but also among the civil servants. Many graduates of agriculture college rose to become IAS and IPS officers in the last seven and half decades. Renowned scientist of breeding, Dr MV Reddy of Bapatla college was chiefly responsible for creation of global famed BPT paddy seed in 1960s. Noted scientists SVS Sastry and IV Subbarao of Bapatla agriculture received Padma awards for their contribution to the agriculture sector.
Paddy varieties, Swarna, Samba Masuri were also innovation of Bapatla college. Several agriculture scientists from this institution held the position of director of Indian Council for Agriculture Research. “We are proud of our institution and teachers. It not only carved our careers but life,” said Nabard chairman Chintala Govinda Rajulu, alumnus of Bapatla agriculture college. Interestingly, next in the command in Nabard, deputy managing director Suryakumar was also old student of Bapatla college.
Senior IRS officer and Hyderabad circle GST chief commissioner Dr D Purushottam is playing key role in bringing the old students together and take up several developmental activities in the college. Chief minister’s principal advisor Ajeya Kallam, chief whip in the legislative council Dr Ummareddi Venkaeswarlu were also readying big plans to develop their parent institution. The alumni association members released 75-year old celebrations commemorative book during the functions held on Thursday. Former DGP and old student M Malakondaiah attended the programme held in Mangalagiri.
