In Dadar, case growth rate higher than in Dharavi

MUMBAI: Dadar reported 59 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday. The number of cases here were under control during the lockdown but have started to increase after relaxation of curbs. On Tuesday the area had reported 31cases. The daily average growth rate of cases in Dadar is now 2%, whereas in Dharavi it is 0.41% and the city’s overall average daily growth rate is 1.36%. The projected doubling rate in Dadar is 31 days, whereas in Dharavi it is 247 days and the city’s average doubling rate is 52 days.
AMC (G-North) Kiran Dighavkar said the spike in cases in Dadar is due to aggressive testing by civic authorities and fever clinics run by BMC outside buildings and chawls. The area has recorded 1,277 Covid-19 cases; Dadar comes under G-North ward, which includes Mahim and Dharavi. Officials stated that when the number of cases increased drastically in Dharavi and other parts of the city in May, the number of cases reported from Dadar were relatively fewer. They stated that the area consists mainly of middle-class families, and people followed lockdown rules strictly. But since markets, shops and offices in the area have opened with conditions, people have started to move out and the number of cases have gone up.
