NASHIK: The Nashik Road police on Wednesday arrested a 19-year-old woman for murdering her mother’s live-in partner the previous evening. The woman told the police that the 53-year-old man had tried to rape her and had also threatened to kill her four-month-old baby.
The woman went with her husband to the police station around 10pm on Tuesday to confess to the murder she had committed around 7.30pm. Police inspector Suraj Bijli said the woman and her husband, who works as a labourer in Thane, live in the house of the deceased man. The man and the woman’s mother have a live-in relationship.
The woman and her husband had come to Nashik on March 20 to find some work in the backdrop of the lockdown. She was pregnant then. On March 26, she delivered a boy and lived for some time in another house in the area before shifting to the house of her mother’s partner.
Police said that on Tuesday, when the woman’s husband had gone out for some work, the man attempted to rape her. In her statement, the woman said she resisted the attempt and hit the man on his genitals. The man tried to attack her child who was sleeping in the kitchen and threatened to kill him, she alleged.
The woman told the police that she again hit the man on his genitals and he fell down. She said she then strangled him with her hands, resulting in his death. The woman was arrested on Wednesday morning and produced before a local court, which remanded her in police custody till Thursday.
