Nagpur: In just a span of two days, CBSE produced one of the most contradicting statistics in its results for Std X and XII. While the number of 90%-plus scorers in Std XII doubled compared to last year, there was a decline in the same parameter when it came to Std X.
Last year, 2.25 lakh students scored above 90% in Std X while this year that dropped to 1.84 lakh.
The reason for this differs, depending on whom you speak with. There is no official statement from the board on this.
Senior academician Bro. Shine Alex, principal of Montfort School, said, “I believe cancellation of exams in many regions could be the reason for the drop in 90+% scorers. Many subjects’ papers were cancelled which is why the performance rate went low.” He added that comparatively Nagpur region performed well.
Kanika Anand, principal of Royal Gondwana Public School, said, “The decrease of numbers is because of the course mainly. I feel students found difficulties in maths subject, hence couldn’t complete the course.”
Students felt the decrease in high scorers could be an individual issue. Shivansh Arora, student of CPS Katol Road who scored 96.6%, said, “I actually felt the paper checking was a bit lenient this time. The main reason for not scoring 90+% could be not enough preparation from one’s side.”
Alisha Mehere, student of SOS Wanadongri who scored 93.6%, said, “Students don’t give importance to scoring subjects like English and social science and end up losing marks.” Her classmate Shreyash Bhute, who scored 91%, said, “There was a change in paper pattern and a few questions were tricky. No doubt that Std XII students had an advantage this year but we too tried our best.”
