Emergency responders have been rushed to Mumbai's Fort area where a portion of a building collapsed on Thursday afternoon. Two people have been rescued and sent to a nearby hospital while a search operation is underway.
According to initial inputs, a part of Bhanushali Building on Mint Road near Lucky House in Fort collapsed at around 4:43 PM on July 16.
A first call regarding the incident was made at 4:43 PM. This was followed by a level-2 collapse reported at 4:55 PM which later escalated to a level-3 house collapse at 5:15 PM.
The Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA) had vacated the building and repair work was underway at the time of the collapse. However, it is also being reported that some people were still residing in it.

Upon arrival, the Mumbai Fire Department learnt from police and locals that half portion of the ground floor and the upper five floors of the residential building had collapsed. It is being estimated that a number of people are trapped under the debris and on the side of the collapsed structure. Search and rescue operations are underway at the site. The Mumbai Fire Department has confirmed that people are trapped under the debris.
As many as eight fire engines, two rescue vans, and 10 ambulances are on the spot along with 6 JCBs and 50 labourers to clear the debris.
This is the second building collapse reported from Mumbai today, the first in Malad.
