THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Covid-19 positive cases in
Kerala have crossed the 10,000 marks with 722 more new cases reported on Thursday. Now the total number of cases has become 10,275 of which 5,372 are the active cases. Thiruvananthapuram has 1279 active cases.
Of the new cases, 501 are contact cases and the source in 37 cases is not known. The state capital continues to be the hot spot with 339 more cases of which 317 are contact cases. Ernakulam reported 50 contact cases followed by Kollam 24, Pathanamthitta 20, Idukki 13, Kasargod 11, eight each from Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur, seven each from Alappuzha and Kottayam, six from Malappuram, two from Palakkad got the disease through contacts.
Among the contact cases, 12 are health workers which include five doctors of the medical college hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Five BSF and three ITBPF personnel also got infected through contacts.
Among the new positive cases 339 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 57 from Ernakulam, 42 each from Kollam and Malappuram, 39 from Pathanamthitta, 33 from Kozhikode, 32 from Thrissur (one expired), 26 from Idukki, 25 from Palakkad, 23 from Kannur (one expired), 20 from Alappuzha, 18 from Kasaragod, 13 each from Kottayam and Wayanad.
Two more deaths were reported in the state. B Anish, 39 who died on July 15 in Thrissur was tested positive. Mohammed Salik, 25, who died in Kannur on July 15 was also tested positive. With this, the total number of deaths that occurred in the state has become 38.
Among the new cases reported in the day 157 people had come from abroad and 62 from other states. In the last 24 hours, 16052 samples were tested in the state. Till date, 268128 samples (including repeat, augmented and private lab samples) have been sent for testing out of which results of 7797 are pending. Apart from above, 85767 samples were taken from priority groups like health care workers, persons with high social exposure, workers etc. as part of sentinel surveillance of which 81543 samples tested negative. At present 183900 persons are placed under surveillance, out of which 178468 are under home/institutional quarantine and 5432 are admitted in designated isolation facilities.
