AHMEDABAD: Gujarat in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Thursday added 919 positive patients – the fourth consecutive day of 900-plus cases for the state – taking the total tally to 45,567. It was only the second day in July where the state did not record daily highest cases.
The state also recorded deaths of 10 Covid-19 positive patients, taking the death toll to 2,091. The deaths were recorded from Ahmedabad and Surat cities both reported five deaths each. It’s for the first time that the other districts did not record any mortality due to viral infection.
As on Thursday evening, Gujarat carried out 4.99 lakh tests to find out new cases – just 800-odd cases away from the figure of 5 lakh. In 24 hours, the state recorded 11,463 tests, which is the highest daily testing.
Surat remained at top in recording the new cases with 265 on Thursday, followed by 181 from Ahmedabad, 74 from Vadodara and 50 from
Bhavnagar. A total of 828 patients also got discharged in 24 hours, taking the total to 32,174.
With the update, the number of active patients again went below 25% in the state at 24.8% (11,302), as the share of discharged and deceased patients is now at 70.6% and 4.6% respectively.
As on Thursday evening, Gujarat has 3.56 lakh persons under quarantine, out of which 3.53 lakh are under home quarantine.
On Thursday the state government announced that a team of experts including Dr Vinod Paul, member of NITI Aayog; Dr Randip Guleria, director of AIIMS Delhi; Dr Balram Bhargav, director general of ICMR; and Arti Ahuja, additional secretary (health) would be on two-day visit to Gujarat from July 17.
The team would visit Surat on Friday and carry out meetings with senior bureaucrats and medical experts and later make a field visit.
They would then visit Ahmedabad and after visiting containment areas, carry out a meeting with
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), mentioned a release from the state government.
