Mysuru: A transgender's quest to beat coronavirus

MYSURU: Patient number 7,285 (Mys-118), a transgender, who returned to the district from Mumbai and had tested positive for the Covid-19 on June 16, is now leading a lonely life in a plantation outside her native village near HD Kote town. She was treated for nine days at the district Covid hospital.
The patient thanked the doctors and the district administration for ensuring best treatment and infusing confidence in her. "Once I recovere from Covid-19, I will return to Mumbai as I don't have any means of livelihood here," she said.
The 45-year-old Bhagya (name changed) went to Mumbai 30 years ago in search of livelihood.
"As Covid-19 cases were surging in Mumbai, I decided to return to Mysuru. I arrived at Bengaluru with six of my friends in Udyan Express train. From Bengaluru, I traveled to Mysuru in a bus. Here, I was staying in a room. I underwent Covid-19 test as I had arrived from Mumbai. When I tested positive for the infection, the authorities advised me to get admitted at a Covid-19 hospital," she said.
"I am the only one among the six of us who tested positive for the infection. May be as I could not take my medicines for one month," she said.
"When I was informed that I am Covid-19 positive, I decided to face it. I wasn't afraid," she said about her initial response to Covid-19 testing result.
"I was asymptomatic. At the hospital, the medical and para medical staff treated me very well. They also infused some confidence in me. After nine days, they shifted me to another place for three days. After that, they asked me to be in the home quarantine for 14 days. Now, I am leading a lonely life in a plantation outside the village in a village near HD Kote town," she said.
