CHENNAI: Several resolutions were passed by the special general body of
PMK that gathered to mark the party’s 32 anniversary on Thursday. The body, which connected through video conferencing, demanded that the state government contain the spread of
Covid-19 at the earliest.
The party passed a resolution, urging the public to extend their support to the government’s efforts in containing the virus.
Among the 15 resolutions passed, the party also demanded a 17% reservation for the vanniyar community in the government sector and a 27% reservation for OBCs in the all India quota in medical college admissions.
The party recommended the cancellation of the final year semester for college students and the provision to waive the interest of bank loans.
Emphasizing on the total prohibition of alcohol, the special general body passed a resolution against the opening of new
Tasmac outlets. The body stated that the free availability of liquor in the state is one of the reasons for the increase in crimes against women and children.
“If the government had implemented former CM Jayalalithaa's 13 point action plan, the crimes against children and women would have reduced,” said the release.
PMK party leaders also urged the AIADMK government to open new paddy procurement centres in the delta region and demanded the Karnataka government to release water in Cauvery to save the kuruvai crops.
The party insisted on an inquiry against authorities who granted permission for private industries’ expansion in Vedanthangal in 2010-2011.
The party members established their stand against the BJP government’s decision to privatise the railway service. They have urged the Centre to withdraw its decision to privatise the rail service in 109 routes, including 14 in TN.
The party requested the Modi government to roll back its decision to include salary earnings in deriving household income to determine the creamy layer among the OBCs.
