Gurgaon: The city on Tuesday breached the 7,000 mark, adding 160 fresh cases of
Covid-19. Its case count is now 7,126. About 1,085 are active cases, out of which 851 are under home quarantine.
Two people succumbed too. So far, 109 people have died of Covid-19 in the city, of which 72 had
comorbidities. With 124 patients recovering on Tuesday, the number of recoveries reached 5,932.
The state, meanwhile, added 699 new cases in all, with its count crossing the 22,000 mark. Of
Haryana’s 22,628 cases, 4,984 are active.
Gurgaon took 78 days to cross 1,000 cases, and then only another eight to cross the 2,000 mark. Thereafter, it added another 1,000 cases in five days and the next 1,000 in six days. The next set of thousand cases have each taken nearly the same number of days — the city took eight days to cross 5,000 cases, another nine to cross 6,000 and now eight more to breach 7,000 cases.
The state has followed a similar
trajectory. It had taken 30 days to cross the 1,000 mark since its first case, and just eight more to cross 2,000. From 3,000 to the 21,000 mark, Haryana has taken between one and three days for each set of thousand cases.
Haryana’s case growth rate has shown a decline. Between May 28 and June 4, cases grew at 17%, which fell to 12% from June 4-11, further declining to 7% from June 11-18. In the period between July 7 and July 14, it dropped to 3%.
At 9.6%, Gurgaon’s positivity rate is higher than that of the state, which is 5.9%.
“Cases are likely to rise in the coming days as we are actively testing more and conducting contact tracing and surveillance. Also, in Sohna, no tests and contact tracing was conducted earlier. We are getting more cases there now,” said Gurgaon chief medical officer Virender Yadav.
So far, 73,332 people have been put under surveillance in the district. The health department has sent 67,482 samples for testing till now, of which 57,854 returned negative while the results of 694 are awaited. A total of 2,079 samples were taken in the past 24 hours for antigen and RT-PCR tests.
