BENGALURU: A 26-year-old private company employee who stripped for his Whats- App girlfriend on a video call was allegedly extorted of Rs 22,000 by miscreants who claimed they had his video.
Simon (name changed) of Doddanekkundi in Whitfield told police an unidentified girl befriended him on WhatsApp last month and they became close friend s. The girl, who called herself Nisha, claimed she was working with a call centre and was from Kerala.
Simon lived alone in a paying guest accommodation since his roommate had gone back home after the pandemic outbreak.
Nisha told Simon she likes to chat on 'hot topics' over the phone and appreciated his boldness.
"Last week, Nisha said she w anted to see me in the nude. Initially, I refused. Then, she promised she would also strip aft er I remove my cl othes," Simon said.
Trusting her, Simon posed nude in a video call and to his shock, Nisha disconnected the call a little later. Since then, her mobile was switched off. On Sunday, Simon received a call from a stranger who claimed he had a video of Simon in the nude and would upload it on social media. He demanded Rs 50,000 to delete the video.
After some bargaining, he agreed for Rs 22,000 and Simon sent the money online. But the miscreant called him again on Monday, asking for more. Realising he would lose more money, Simon decided to file a complaint with cybercrime police.
